with Terry Brands, University of Iowa Assistant Coach; 2009 NCAA Champions; former USA National Freestyle Resident Coach, Bronze Medalist 2000 Olympic Games 2X World Champion 2X NCAA Champion at University of Iowa
Terry Brands has found great success at the International Level: Olympic medalist, 2-time World Freestyle Champion, 2-time World Cup Champion. Brands discusses his two rules for successful freestyle defense: Read your opponent's shoulder and no lazy scenarios. Following these rules he demonstrates defense against gut wrenches (mid/low, high and trap arm), leg laces, leg turks, leg straddles, Ankle/knee hooks and outside series. Some of the tips he covers include beat elbows inside, elbow fighting, turn toe inside, "molding", "jack hammer" and hand fighting. The goal of great freestyle defense is reading where your opponent's pressure is and then keeping him off balance enough not to get his move. With these techniques that Brands teaches, your wrestlers will be well on their way to accomplishing that goal.

World Team member Chris Bono passes along his strategies for controlling the edge of the mat in both freestyle and folkstyle wrestling. Defensively, Coach Bono demonstrates options on what to do when your back is to the edge. Instruction includes cut the angle, "bang the man," the pressure shot and re-shot. Offensively, he shows how to cut off your opponent and keep him on the edge, as well as how to score when the opponent tries to kick off the mat. The freestyle instruction includes tips for par terre wrestling near the edge of the mat. These tips and strategies will not only give you scoring options, but also keep the referee from calling penalty points on you!
with Tricia Saunders, US Olympic Women's Freestyle Assistant Wrestling Coach; 4X World Champion and 11X National Champion
Wrestlers who can score in the par terre position have a huge advantage over their opponents. Offense from the par terre position takes a fraction of the effort compared to a takedown, but racks up bunches of points forcing your opponent to play "catch up". In this video, Tricia Saunders demonstrates some basic scoring moves from the top position and provides variations of each. Saunders begins by discussing the gut wrench and three different variations off of it. From there she demonstrates five different tilts including the Ankle Lace, Bow and Arrow, and Crotch Lift. All moves are clearly explained and demonstrated from a variety of angles. Gain an advantage on the mat with world class instruction from Tricia Saunders!

To give your wrestlers a different look, Saunders goes over a move that can be executed without tying up - the Snatch Single. She closes the video demonstrating Finishes and Throws - six different finishes your wrestlers can use if their opponent stops the high crotch attack and three throws that can provide big points for your wrestlers. Each technique is clearly explained and demonstrated from different angles and in slow-motion as well as match speed. These moves are great for both freestyle and folkstyle wrestling and are appropriate for wrestlers at any level.
